Mayweather vs De La Hoya 10 Years of Beef....and Counting
“This is the same fighter that went to my Dad, because he wanted to fight like me”, Floyd Mayweather explained to FightHype.com in a recent interview. Floyd “Money” Mayweather continues, “If I was a young fighter right now…fight under Golden Boy… I couldn’t do it”.
Over the years, it has become increasingly evident that there exists some deep, and authentic animosity between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Oscar “Golden Boy” De La Hoya. The two future “Hall of Fame” fighters squared off against one another in May of 2007 in a historic event. Mayweather came out of the fight victorious in a 12-round split decision. That fight and the preceding build-up has been the foundation for a rivalry that has lasted over 10-years.
The rivalry has included the 2007 “Mega Fight”, Mayweather defeating several fighters from the “Golden Boy Promotions” stable, the infamous “Golden Boys Promotions racist email” situation, on various on-going “verbal jabs” exchanged between the two. Verbal jabs such as Oscar’s tirade against the 2017 Mayweather vs McGregor boxing match, as well as Floyd’s constant reference to De La Hoya’s battle with substance abuse, have become common-placed in the modern landscape of the sport of boxing. Needless to say, these two have a genuine, deeply-seeded disdain for one another, and it has only increased, and traveled from the squared-circle into the boxing promotions sector. Oscar De La Hoya's "Golden Boy Promotions", and Floyd Mayweather's "Mayweather Promotions/TMT" continue to rival one another 10+ years after their bout.

As a true boxing fan, and sports media outlet, I have no doubt that this rivalry will continue to grow and remain interesting for the years to come. I have my “popcorn ready”!
